[ARCHIVED] Wade-Vancleave Road Closure - March 1, 2022

Wade-Vancleave Road Closure (March 1, 2022)

Wade-Vancleave Road to be Closed for 18+ Months, Beginning March 1, 2022 for Bridge Replacements

JACKSON COUNTY, MS - On March 1, 2022, a portion of Wade-Vancleave Road, between Old River Road and Highway 63, will be closed to through-traffic as Parker’s Lake and Roy Cumbest Bridges are replaced. Wade-Vancleave Road is the only County-maintained road north of I-10 that crosses the Pascagoula River. Therefore, traffic will be rerouted to Interstate 10 until both bridges are complete. The closure is expected to last 18-24 months depending on weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

Parker’s Lake Bridge construction has already begun. It is expected to take approximately 12 months to complete once the road is closed and demolition begins on the current bridge on March 1, 2022. State and County funds will be used for the estimated $9M project.

Roy Cumbest Bridge construction will begin after the project is bid, in late Summer 2022, with a significant portion of work being completed before the current bridge is demolished in early 2023. Federal, State, and County funds will be used for the approximately $20M project.

It is not the intension to have both bridges out at the same time. But in the event that does happen, we will get that information out as timely as possible.

“The closure will be a huge inconvenience for many but it is necessary,” says District 1 Supervisor Barry Cumbest.  “Safety is the priority, and with both bridges having low inspection scores, we must move forward. We are also very appreciative to our State Legislators for their support in funding these two major projects.”

The County’s contractor, Cotton Creek Construction, will be posting Road Closure and Detour signs as we near the March 1 closure.
