On Friday, December 13, the Jackson County Board of Supervisors broke ground on a new 1620 square foot West Planning Department Building at 2 p.m. The $680k project includes office space for the five employees who currently work out of a portable trailer, as well as a break room, conference room, and additional space if needed.
During the past decade, the number of permits issued for the west side of the County has seen continued growth. Additionally, new construction is expected to increase more after the I-10/Cook Road Connector Project is completed, therefore, a larger more permanent location is needed.
The new facility will be built just west of the Road Department at 6900 Washington Avenue. It is expected to take 9 months to complete. Machado Patano is the project engineer and DCD Construction was awarded the bid.
