On June 2, 2023, Rosa Robicheaux, 41, pled guilty to Child Abuse. The victim was a five (5) month old infant. The Gautier Police Department responded to Singing River Hospital and found the infant suffering from multiple brain bleeds and skull fractures due to abusive head trauma caused by the Defendant shaking the victim.
Robicheaux, a resident of Jackson County, originally went to the hospital with the victim and his mother but ultimately fled to Alabama. She was arrested days later by the Mobile Police Department while on a bus to Iowa. She ultimately admitted to abusing the infant.
Judge Calvin Taylor sentenced Robicheaux to Forty (40) years with Twenty-five (25) to serve in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath stated, “Rosa Robicheaux violently shook a helpless infant into a state of unconsciousness, verging on death. By God’s grace this infant is alive and healthy. Our children are our treasures and we remain committed to fight, to protect our children in and out of the courtroom. We appreciate the diligence of the law enforcement agencies involved in solving this crime and capturing Robicheaux before she fled.”
Assistant District Attorney Justin Lovorn stated, “I’m thankful that this child was ultimately able to recover from his injuries. I want to thank the Gautier Police Department’s efforts in investigating this case so the victim and his family can see justice.”
Angel Myers McIlrath and Justin Lovorn represented the State of Mississippi in this case.
