NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON WHETHER TO SELL SINGING RIVER HEALTH SYSTEM 

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, that the Jackson County Mississippi Board of Supervisors will hold a Public Hearing on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors meeting room, in the Jackson County Services Complex, located at 2915 Canty Street, Pascagoula, MS 39567, on the issue of whether to sell or lease with an option to sell, Singing River Health System.


INFORMATION ADDED 7/26/2022
The following outlines the process for the sale of Singing River Health System

August 17, 2022 – Public Hearing

  • 6 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Room (2915 Canty Street, Pascagoula)

September 7, 2022 @ 5 p.m. – Deadline for Public to File Petition Requesting an Election be Called

  • The public has up to 21 days after the public hearing to submit a petition requesting the County hold an election to allow voters to determine whether the County should proceed with the process for the sale of the hospital
  • The petition must be signed by 1500 qualified Jackson County voters or 20% of the electorate of the county, whichever is less
  • The petition must be submitted to the Clerk of the Board (Chancery Clerk) by 9/7/22 close of business day

If a petition requesting an election is filed (by 9/7/22)

  • The County shall call an election
  • Notice of the Election shall be published for three consecutive weeks with the first publication not being less than 21 days before the election and the last publication not being more than 7 days before the election
    • If less than a majority of qualified voters vote in favor of proceeding with seeking proposals, the County will not proceed with seeking proposals
    • If a majority of qualified voters vote in favor of proceeding with seeking proposals, the County may proceed with seeking proposals 

If no petition requesting an election is filed (by 9/7/22)

  • The County may proceed with a Request for Proposals

Request for Proposals – if the County is authorized to seek proposals after the above process has taken place:

  • The County shall adopt a resolution describing its intention to sell the hospital which shall include the reason why a sale is in the best interest of the persons living in the area served by the hospital
  • The Resolution and requirements for the proposal will be published for three consecutive weeks with the first publication not being less than 21 days before the proposed sale date, and the last publication not being more than 7 days before the proposed sale date.
  • After proposals are received, such sale may be made to the highest and best proposal
